LEAD was amazing today!
Today in the Winter Garden, I had an intense discussion with Todd, Robbie, and Elaine about business ethics. I found our discussion fascinating since I've encountered so many difficult ethical situations during my experience at Enron and later at Worldcom. As my classmates contributed their stories about ethics and leadership, I began to recall the tools and frameworks that I learned in LEAD program. As I applied the tools I learned to these situations, I began to realize how valuable the training I have received here at GSB. I never thought that my character development would advance so far in such a short time. Look out business world, here I come!
Organizing the high-tech conference
I've been having a great time working with a team of first and second years to organize the high-tech conference. It's a whole a lot of work, putting on a conference in the middle of school, recruiting and everything else that happens at the GSB. We've got several weeks to go, but we're busy getting sponsors, filling out panels, marketing to both the GSB and external tech community. Stay tuned for more details about the conference -- it should be a great day.

My "Flow"
I submitted my resume to Career Services last week for review, and I just got it back in my mail folder today with a green sheet saying it was good to go. Yay! After I had a Career Advisor and a 2nd year Marketing Group member review it, I would've been surprised if there were any mistakes left to correct.
This week has been very busy. I had LEAD class on Monday afternoon. The module was on Conflict Management. We learned about the different types of negotiating styles: competing, collaborating, compromising, avoiding, and accommodating. Through the role plays we did, we learned how to identify the opposing side's negotiating style and techniques for relating and ultimately, reaching a valuable agreement for both sides. I was pretty happy with the way my role play turned out.
Yesterday I met with my interview practice group again. We practiced answering fit questions, which I found a lot easier since the last Career Services session. They taught us about identifying times we were in "flow," which means when we are so focused and passionate about a task that time flies by. I thought of some examples from work when I was in flow and used them as answers to fit questions. Lori said that she could tell I was more passionate about what I was talking about because I spoke excitedly.
I'm really looking forward to the weekend. It's the GSB Belgian Halloween Party!
